In January 2011, OCLC introduced the latest modification, enabling the automatic creation of acquisition orders in the LBS for titles selected from the WorldCat Selection (WCS) platform. This involved converting WCS records into PICA format, as well as matching and merging records in the GGC (shared cataloguing system). The LBS4 tool that transfers the order data from the GGC to the ACQ module was checked and approved by OCLC in a test set-up. This was due to be released in 2011 in an LBS4 update.

However, due to problems in the Library with LBS4, the tool has not yet been implemented. The absolute priority is now to ensure that LBS4 works faultlessly in our library. The WCS implementation is consequently ‘on hold’. This is why we have not yet tested whether WCS will function properly in the Groningen set-up. Until this has been done, it will not be possible to assess whether WCS has a future in the selection and acquisition workflow. This will also depend on other factors than the technical factors, namely usability, efficiency and acceptance.
