Gay Pride Day (‘Roze Zaterdag’)

On 2 July 2011, Groningen hosted Gay Pride Day (Roze Zaterdag, or Pink Saturday) The University Library also took part in this event: artworks by staff member Cora Euser were exhibited in the stairwell. The works feature literary quotations, such as those by Gerard Reve, shown in the photograph.

Photographer Ewoud Broeksma exhibited photographs in the fourth-floor stairwell, and Mayor Peter Rehwinkel was pleased to attend the opening.

28 november 2011: presentation of the first Open Access-News letter to Sibrand Poppema

On 28 November 2011, director Marjolein Nieboer presented the first Open Access Newsletter to Siebrand Poppema, President of the Board of the University. The newsletter is published three times a year as a supplement to the Innovatieflits. Copyright librarian Esther Hoorn writes the newsletter together with editor Ronald Vermeer, who also produces the Innovatieflits on behalf of the Transfer Liaison Group.

Waste Action SMOG

Household-waste campaign
One such event was a waste campaign organized by SMOG (Groningen Students Environment Group). All the waste generated in the Library in an entire week was collected, and the bags were then deposited in a pile by the entrance. The aim of the campaign was to make staff and students aware of how much waste we all create…

A table with offerings and information about the Dia de los Muertos

Dia de los muertos
A group of students from Latin America set up an ofrenda by the Library entrance, consisting of a table with foods and other offerings, a custom on the annual ‘Day of the Dead’, particularly in Mexico.
This was done with the aim of introducing students to the cultural expressions of another country.
